SolasCure awarded MTEC grant to develop enhanced Aurase Wound product for battlefield wounds
Grant awarded by the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), funded by the US Defense Health Agency
Two-year programme with a total value of $1.2 million
Objective: an enhanced Aurase Wound product combining tarumase with a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, to prevent infection in battlefield wounds treated in austere settings
Cambridge, 26 October 2026: SolasCure has been awarded a grant by the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), funded by the US Defense Health Agency, to develop an enhanced Aurase Wound product for the prevention of infection in battlefield wounds treated in austere settings.
The two-year project has a total value of $1.2 million, partially funded by MTEC and the Defense Health Agency.
The programme will develop a formulation combining tarumase, SolasCure's proprietary enzyme, with a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. The objective is prophylactic prevention of infection in contaminated trauma wounds at or near the point of injury, in environments where surgical care is not available and evacuation may be delayed.
Tarumase is a recombinant fibrinolytic enzyme that selectively degrades non-viable tissue. It is the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Aurase Wound Gel, SolasCure's investigational product for chronic wounds.
The MTEC programme applies the same ingredient, produced through the same manufacturing process, to a different setting. Combining tarumase with a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent is intended to produce a single product that can be applied at or near the point of injury by personnel without specialist training.
"This award allows us to apply our innovative enzyme to a setting where the need for rapid, safe wound care is acute. We are grateful to MTEC and the Defense Health Agency for their support." - Lee Harle, CEO, SolasCure
